I will examine various texts in an attempt to understand how the process of shishisosho (master-disciple transmissions) took place and was carried out in the Kamakura period. Through a combination of geomorphic mapping and statistical terrain analysis, we identify ubiquitous deep-seated landslide and earthflow features, whose locations are strongly correlated with underlying Franciscan melange lithology, large-scale structural features, and connectivity to channels.
